Dark Harvest Prickly Pear Punch

Deep crimson, lightly sparkling, and just mysterious enough for Halloween, this Dark Harvest Prickly Pear Punch brings sophisticated flavor to the season’s celebrations.

Black cherry and cranberry juices create its dramatic color, while fresh lime and spicy ginger beer keep it bright and refreshing. Seven Barrels Prickly Pear Balsamic Vinegar adds a sweet, tangy layer of fruit that transforms a simple punch into something memorable.

Serve it as a family-friendly Halloween punch, or use the optional tequila variation to create a festive cocktail for an adults-only gathering.

Ingredients

For the Punch

  • 4 cups black cherry juice, chilled
  • 3 cups cranberry juice cocktail, chilled
  • ⅓ cup Seven Barrels Prickly Pear Balsamic Vinegar
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 cups ginger beer, chilled
  • 2 cups sparkling water, chilled
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • Ice for serving

Optional Adult Version

Optional Garnishes

  • Fresh prickly pear slices
  • Additional blackberries
  • Thin lime wheels
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Dehydrated citrus slices
  • Purple sanding sugar for the glass rims

Directions

Step 1

Pour the black cherry juice and cranberry juice cocktail into a large glass pitcher or punch bowl.

Add the Seven Barrels Prickly Pear Balsamic Vinegar and fresh lime juice. Whisk or stir thoroughly until the balsamic is completely incorporated.

Step 2

Cover and refrigerate the juice mixture for at least 1 hour. Chilling the base allows the fruit flavors to blend while ensuring the finished punch stays cold without requiring excessive ice.

Step 3

Shortly before serving, add the blackberries and lime slices to the chilled punch base.

Frozen blackberries can be used in place of some of the ice to keep the punch cold without diluting it.

Step 4

Pour in the ginger beer and sparkling water immediately before serving. Stir gently to combine without losing too much carbonation.

Step 5

Fill each glass with ice and ladle or pour in the punch. Garnish with a blackberry, lime wheel, fresh rosemary sprig, or slice of prickly pear.

Step 6: Adult Version

For an adults-only Dark Harvest Punch, stir 2 cups of blanco tequila or vodka into the chilled juice mixture before adding the ginger beer and sparkling water.

For individual cocktails, add 1½ ounces of tequila or vodka to each glass before topping it with the finished punch.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the punch in a clear glass pitcher or punch bowl so its deep crimson color remains visible.

Chef’s Tip

Prepare the black cherry, cranberry, lime, and Prickly Pear Balsamic base several hours in advance, but wait until immediately before serving to add the ginger beer and sparkling water.

For the coldest punch without dilution, freeze blackberries and lime slices on a parchment-lined tray. Add the frozen fruit to the pitcher just before serving instead of filling the punch bowl with loose ice.

Do not use dry ice directly in individual drinks. If dry ice is used decoratively around the serving display, keep it completely separate from the punch and glassware.
