Habanero Pumpkin Deviled Eggs

Habanero Pumpkin Deviled Eggs

Sep 13, 2026Tom Carlton

These Habanero Pumpkin Deviled Eggs bring just enough heat to the Halloween table. The filling is smooth, creamy, and lightly spiced with Seven Barrels Habanero Extra Virgin Olive Oil, then piped into ridged little “pumpkins” and finished with a short chive stem.

They look festive without feeling childish, and they work equally well for Halloween parties, autumn dinners, and fall entertaining.

Recipe Overview

Prep time: 25 minutes
Cook time: 12 minutes
Chill time: 20 minutes
Total time: Approximately 57 minutes
Yield: 12 deviled egg halves
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients

For the eggs

  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons Seven Barrels Habanero Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon fine salt, plus more to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the pumpkin color and garnish

  • 1 to 2 teaspoons additional smoked paprika, as needed
  • 1 small pinch turmeric, optional
  • Fresh chives, cut into short stem-shaped pieces
  • Finely chopped parsley or chives, optional
  • Extra Seven Barrels Habanero EVOO for drizzling, optional

Instructions

Cook the eggs

Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover them with cold water by approximately one inch.

Bring the water to a full boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, cover the pan, remove it from the heat, and let the eggs stand for 11 to 12 minutes.

Transfer the eggs immediately to a bowl of ice water. Let them cool for at least 10 minutes.

Peel and prepare the eggs

Gently tap and peel the cooled eggs.

Slice each egg in half lengthwise. Carefully remove the yolks and place them in a medium bowl.

Arrange the egg-white halves on a serving platter.

Make the habanero filling

Mash the yolks with a fork until fine and crumbly.

Add the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, one teaspoon of Seven Barrels Habanero Extra Virgin Olive Oil, vinegar or lemon juice, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Stir until the mixture is completely smooth.

Taste the filling. Add the second teaspoon of Habanero EVOO for more heat, keeping in mind that the flavor may become slightly more pronounced as the filling rests.

For a deeper pumpkin-orange color, add a little more smoked paprika and a very small pinch of turmeric. Add the turmeric sparingly so it does not overpower the flavor.

If the filling feels too thick to pipe cleanly, add another teaspoon of mayonnaise. If it feels too loose, refrigerate it for 10 to 15 minutes.

Pipe the pumpkin shapes

Transfer the filling to a piping bag fitted with a large open-star tip.

Pipe the filling into each egg-white half, holding the bag upright to create rounded, ridged mounds that resemble small pumpkins.

Cut the chives into short pieces and place one piece vertically in the center of each mound to form a stem.

Chill and serve

Refrigerate the completed deviled eggs for at least 20 minutes before serving.

Just before serving, lightly dust the eggs with smoked paprika. Add finely chopped parsley or chives around the platter, if desired.

For additional heat, finish with a very light drizzle of Seven Barrels Habanero EVOO. Do not overdo the drizzle, since a small amount delivers plenty of flavor.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the deviled eggs cold on a black, dark gray, or wood serving platter.

For a complete Halloween appetizer spread, pair them with:

  • Bourbon Balsamic onion crostini
  • Maple Balsamic bacon-wrapped dates
  • White Truffle popcorn
  • Roasted pumpkin seeds
  • Marinated olives
  • Dark crackers with goat cheese

For the strongest pumpkin effect, use a wide star piping tip and pipe the filling slightly higher than a standard deviled egg.

Adjusting the Heat

Habanero flavor can vary by product and personal tolerance. Begin with one teaspoon of Habanero EVOO and taste the filling before adding more.

For a milder version, use:

  • 1 teaspoon Habanero EVOO
  • 2 additional teaspoons of plain extra virgin olive oil

For a hotter version, add the full two teaspoons of Habanero EVOO and finish the eggs with a light drizzle just before serving.

The goal is a warm, noticeable finish, not enough heat to overpower the egg filling.

Make-Ahead Instructions

The eggs can be boiled and peeled up to two days in advance.

The filling can be prepared one day ahead and refrigerated in an airtight container or piping bag.

For the best presentation, pipe and garnish the eggs no more than four hours before serving. Add the chive stems shortly before serving so they remain fresh.

Storage

Store leftover deviled eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days.

Do not freeze deviled eggs. The texture of both the filling and egg whites will suffer after thawing.
