Sticky Elderberry Balsamic Glazed Meatballs

A bag of frozen meatballs becomes an impressive party appetizer with a glossy, sweet-and-savory Elderberry Balsamic glaze. Blackberry preserves emphasize the balsamic’s deep berry notes, while Dijon, garlic and soy sauce keep the finished dish balanced and savory.

Serve the meatballs straight from a skillet or arrange them over whipped goat cheese for a restaurant-inspired presentation.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Servings: 6–8 as an appetizer

Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 1 bag (24–28 ounces) frozen fully cooked beef or turkey meatballs
  • Chopped fresh parsley or chives, for serving
  • Crumbled goat cheese, optional
  • Cocktail picks, for serving

For the Elderberry Balsamic Glaze

  • ½ cup seedless blackberry preserves
  • ⅓ cup Seven Barrels Elderberry Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions

Cook the Meatballs

  1. Preheat the oven according to the directions on the package of frozen meatballs.
  2. Arrange the meatballs in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet.
  3. Bake until heated through and lightly browned, approximately 15–20 minutes, depending on the package directions.

Make the Elderberry Balsamic Glaze

  1. While the meatballs cook, combine the blackberry preserves, Elderberry Balsamic, Dijon mustard, soy sauce, garlic and red pepper flakes in a large skillet.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  3. Cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the preserves have melted and the sauce has reduced into a thick, glossy glaze.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the butter.

Glaze the Meatballs

  1. Add the hot meatballs directly to the skillet.
  2. Toss gently until every meatball is evenly coated.
  3. Continue cooking for 2–3 minutes, spooning the glaze over the meatballs as it thickens.
  4. Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with parsley, chives or crumbled goat cheese.
  5. Serve warm with cocktail picks.

Seven Barrels Kitchen Tip

Allow the glaze to simmer before adding the meatballs. This concentrates the Elderberry Balsamic and creates a sauce that clings to the meatballs instead of collecting at the bottom of the platter.

If the glaze becomes too thick, stir in a tablespoon of warm water. If it is still too thin, let it simmer for another minute or two.

Slow-Cooker Instructions

Prepare the glaze on the stovetop as directed. Add the frozen meatballs and finished glaze to a slow cooker, then cook on low for 2–3 hours. Stir occasionally and switch the slow cooker to warm before serving.

Make Them Even More Impressive

Spread whipped goat cheese across the bottom of a shallow serving platter and arrange the glazed meatballs over it. Finish with additional Elderberry Balsamic, chopped chives and cracked black pepper.

The tangy goat cheese balances the sweet berry glaze and creates a dramatic contrast against the dark, glossy meatballs.

The Grocery Store Glow-Up

Frozen meatballs make this appetizer almost effortless. Elderberry Balsamic transforms them into something rich, unexpected and party-worthy without requiring homemade meatballs or a complicated sauce.

Best served for: Holiday gatherings, cocktail parties, game day, family celebrations or an easy weeknight dinner over rice or mashed potatoes.
